How big it is is going to determine where you put it. I am a bit curious, what do you need the converter for? You need to put it against the wall that you are going to mount it to, and mark the mounting holes. If that wall is metal, I would use a transfer punch to get the center of the holes, and then use a regular punch to set a deep enough point for the drill bit to easily be captured in. I would use a cross point drill bit since they tend to stay where they are put better than a regular drill bit. Drill the holes, and use short bolts with nuts and lock washers to fasten the inverter to where you want it to be. You could use self tapping screws, they are easier to use, just be sure they are not going to hit anything important on the other side, nor pose a threat to tires. The closer that this inverter is to the battery, the better things will be, but engine heat could ruin it very quickly. This is a mounting point you need to take into consideration. Wires to the the inverter input, that is, battery to inverter have to be big enough to carry the power load. If you expect 1000 watts out of the inverter, then the power leads to it must be able to carry 12 volts at enough amps, plus about 20% more to get that 1000 watts out. So you need to figure on 6 gauge or larger wire. The smaller the wire number, the bigger the wire is. You'll most likely need to drill holes some where either in the fire wall, or in the bottom of the passenger compartment, or trunk to get the wires to the inverter. Remember, where you put this inverter, heat is going to be an issue. Trunks get hot also, and this could cause the inverter to fail. Protect the power input wires from being chafed by the metal around the hole they go through, you really don't need a short circuit there. Actually, you could get by with one lead from the positive side of the battery, and use the frame/body of the vehicle as ground, just connect the negatie terminal of the inverter to the vehicle body. That, however presents the problem of body resistance for the current in question for the inverter supply. After you get it mounted, and wired for the battery to inverter supply, there should be outlets on the inverter, just plug in what ever it is that needs the 120 Vac that the inverter is going to supply. If all of this seems a bit to much, take the vehicle and inverter to a shop that specializes in installing audio equipment, and have them do it.
